Once you enter into this place, it seems like you have transported to some ancient era. Brown hue, dark interiors and some cultural props let you feel the warmth and gives you a glimpse of Afghan culture. This place is one of the kind restaurant where you choose your meat cut and they prepare it the way you like it. Shinwari or Afghan cuisine is renowned for customized butchering and cooking.

Our session started with dumpukht broth, my husband and I shared the bowl and let our tastebuds explore this new flavor for us.

Wakha platter is an apt option if you want to try most of the BBQ variety here. The platter comes in three sizes and obviously we went for the size suitable for 2 people, filling and hearty. You can relish the combination of shinwari  lamb tikka, shinwari chicken tikka, kabuli beef tikka, kabuli beef kabab, kabuli chicken tikka, kabuli pulao and naan. My favorites were Shinwari Chicken/lamb Tikka- charcoal-grilled fresh meat seasoned with salt and cooked in natural fat. They were succulent in every bite. Kabuli beef tikka and kabab are something you don’t wanna miss, marinated in Afghani spices and charcoal grilled with again in natural fat.

The flagship dish here is Kabuli Pulao which is also a national dish in Afghanistan. Kabuli Pulao is all about tender meat lamb or beef domed under long grained steamed rice cooked in seasoned broth topped with raisins and julienne carrots and served with Kofta Nakhod, seasoned beef meat balls cooked with grounded chick peas. Kabuli is also famous in Saudia Arabia, where it is also known as roz Bukhari. I would highly highly recommend this dish!!

Our server suggested us to try seekh kabab, which we didn’t regret to try with the hummus and how can I forget to mention creamy hummus, so yum!!!

At Wakha, most food items are prepared fresh once you place an order, which is why it requires some time to serve your food. This is the reason it highly recommends placing your order in advance to avoid the waiting time while your food is being prepared. So, I did the same 🙂

In curry I would recommend try Shinwari Chicken Karha, fresh chicken cooked in tomatoes & green chilies, it was unbelievably tasty busting with flavors, we had it with afghani naan. Those who don’t know about afghani naan its a long circular bread that goes well with curry based dishes.

In drinks you can quench your thirst with refreshing lemonades, which is itself a treat to your body.

We ended our session on classic Afghani Kehwa and left the place as satisfied customer 🙂

No doubt Wakha offers a real-time feast for those interested in the rich Central Asian culture of Afghanistan and am totally impressed with the quality of meat and delectable taste. No wonder am gonna be their regular customer and giving full points for the taste.
