Biryani is bae. Yes!!! you can understand from this how much I love biryani. Since the day I landed in this Sheikhland my quest for biryani is never ending quest. I was impressed with only one joint in Dubai until I came across to Biryani Express.
Located in Pavilion mall in International City. The whole place is a medley of old and contemporary style. One distressed wall with a fusion of quirky designs on the other, hanging lamps and train props assemble on the middle tables, takes you on the journey of old to new India in a glimpse. Small open kitchen window let you see of hustle bustle of the kitchen.
We were welcomed warmly by the staff and after sitting down on the table we proceeded by placing order and munch on some colorful papads while waiting for our food to arrive.
In starters what we tried?
- Gobi Mozzarella Kofta
- Chicken Kathi Roll
Chicken khati roll was stuffed with chicken malai tikka cubes tossed with pepper, onion and wrapped in indian bread layer with egg and served with green chutney. I can’t tell you I think it was one of the best I have tried anywhere in Dubai. It was filling and good for one hungry tummy where as Gobi Mozzarella Kofta were stuffed fried ball with mozzarella cheese and a garlic dip but I believe a little more seasoning could have made this dish more tasty.
In main course
- Mutton Achari Korma
- Mtton Biryani
Mutton Achari Korma had chicken chunks marinated well with yogurt, in house spices and cooked in indian gravy, I wish the gravy could have tasted more rich and creamy. It was served with pickle, daal tadka and a choice of bread. We opted for Naan (Indian bread), fresh and went well with the curry.
Now, lets talk about the biryani which is the specialty of this place. We ordered Mutton biryani only but the courteous staff served us other varieties too to sample. They use boneless chicken, long grain basmati rice and flavorful spices to make it a perfect meal. Other flavors were Chicken Tikka Biryani, Pineapple Chicken Biryani and Paneer Tikka Biryani. If you are a tikka lover Chicken Tikka Biryani is for you, it was flavorful with a pieces of well marinated tikka chunks. For vegetarian soul Paneer Tikka Cubes layered with saffron rice will definitely delight your taste buds. Pineapple Chicken one was new for me I was intrigued to try this new flavor. Let me clear I don’t prefer any sweet tempering in biryani, so being skeptical was obvious but to my amazement it clicked me instantly. Pineapple taste was not at all overpowering and the flavor of biryani was still intact.
In desserts our palates were treated with sweet biryani and gulab jaman. Sweet biryani was kinda Kheer (rice pudding) and gulab jaman were hot and delectable the way I like to eat. We ended our session on the note of hot cup Karak Tea infused with ginger.
I would definitely recommend this place if you are really looking for some flavorful biryani with different varieties and yes Khatti Roll is a must have from Express Biryani.
