Osha gourmet offers traditional emirati cuisine with a twist of fusion in order to cater different palates. This emirati restaurant is tucked away in semens building abudhabi with other food joints. My husband and I drove all the way to the capital from dubai and was excited to explore Masdar city.
It was my first time in masdar city,if you are coming from dubai only GPS is your friend to locate it feasibly. This place seemed isolated and could find only one or two families roaming around at the friday’s lunch time, but to my amazement the restaurant was busy with people, talking and having emirati fusion.
The osha’s trade mark represents the traditional veil and culture of the region.Restaurant is not very spacious and have a dark mood with decent interior. Traditional pictures on wall, book shelf with some good collection of book to read while waiting for the order, these are some of the items that would attract your attention instantly. They have private sitting area in terms of majlis for families and even have arabic style outdoor sitting arrangement which I am sure people gonna prefer in coming weather.
Our lunch started with the welcome drink Chami & Date, a buttermilk drink with a tinge of mint served along with dates.
For drinks we got Osha Mojito, Rabdan Mojito and El Damani, Osha an aromatic blend of cinnamon, lime, mint and blackberry. Rabdan refreshing blend of passion fruit, lime and mint whereas El Damani punch of strawberry extract with lime and mint. In short all the drinks we tried were amazing and freshening .
In starters Dynamite shrimps and Jasheed spring roll titillated our palates specially toothsome dynamite shrimps. Well fried jumbo shrimps coated heavily with the sauce, I bet you won’t stop after eating one. Jasheed roll had baby shark fish yes shark!!! even the baby shark name gives you trepidation feeling, since it was my first time I was little dubious about this starter. Rolls had minced fish meat, cooked with in house spices served with special dip of dates.Among the both starters Dynamite shrimps was the highlight.
In main course:
Osha’s Mix Grill, medley of saffron chicken pieces, skewer of kabab, yogourt lamb and chicken tikka served with fries and dips like creamy hummus, yogurt and spicy tomato sauce. Each piece of all the items were soft and grilled to perfection. I totally relish each fare with hummus although I felt the privation of garlic paste sauce which commonly comes along with this sort of mix grill but being am emirati cuisine they don’t serve this in Lebanese way.
Semach Mashwai a seafood dish consist of super juicy fish marinated with inhouse secret spices and grilled on charcoal to golden served along with grilled veggies and lemon butter sauce. Fish was melt in the mouth and light flavors with the lemon butter sauce made it an interesting combination.
From the oven section we selected Baked Chicken and Mushroom, this luscious dish won our heart instantly, saffron creamy sauce with chicken and mushroom pieces with the layers of mozzarella cheese baked in a clay pot was no less than a treat for a cheese lover like me. A must try!!
Oh!! last but not the least after such hearty lunch,in dessert we tried one of their best seller and it was purely our server choice. We couldn’t ask for a better end of our emirati affair than Happy Hormone, warm brownie topped with kinder bar and icecream and thats not it,it was served with chocolate sauce to give a burst of happiness in our mouth. Absolutely amazing!!!
Not to forget try out their karak tea, exceptionally good. It gives you instant boost to your lazy body after having such a hearty meal.
Do try out this emirati fusion place for your traditional fix.Quality and taste would really grab you and if you live in abudhabi, surely your first experience will take you back to this place again.
