Saleem’s of delhi a prominent indian restaurant after a famous venture in India, now providing authentic taste of delhi here without leaving Dubai.I got a chance to try it out few time back. The event was arranged by a famous blogger Deepti Chandak from Jive With Deepti blog.
The whole ambiance is inspired from Mughals era and it feels like as if you are in some part of an old Mughal’s hawali. The interiors are decorated in such sort that it bounds to give you a regal sense with frames and pictorial description of delhi’s past. Wooden chairs in funky colors changes the mood and gives it a contemporary touch.
The event had live music arrangement where tabla player unfurling percussion sounds on traditional indian tunes adding vibrancy to the atmosphere. There was photo booth as well with props according to the theme.
After setting down the food started flowing in on our tables. The menu caters both veg and non-veg. There were variety of grills that were presented to us. Zafrani tikka that had a prominent flavor of saffron it was soft pieces of chicken, well marinated and cooked. Assorted kababs came to us, I liked some of them.Fish was also there and I really like it.They all were cooked in a traditional style and presented to us in a silver crockery.
To quench our thirst there were two flavors available one was TORNADO TWIST cranberry juice with a hint of rose, the other one was CUCUMBER JULEP,a refreshing juice with a hint of lemon soda. It was my choice of the night.
Being a rice lover my excitement arose with the sight of Pilau on the table,it was covered with naan. Naan was not meant for eating, it is the way to cover and give dum to rice. Mutton pieces were soft and full of flavors and complimented perfectly with the Delhi Mutton Pilau. It was one of the main course.
In curries I tasted murg musalam, creamy and thick in consistency with cream and ground cashews. I don’t know but somehow it couldn’t impress me that much.
The night was ended on two famous desi desserts, kulfi and firni. Although I couldn’t taste both as I had to leave early but got positive feedback from others.
Overall my experience was good with my fellow bloggers. I got to experience authentic delhi food which I used to hear from my indian friends.Servers are courteous and well informed. My suggestion is to keep a balance on spice levels cause I found most of the dishes fiery in taste otherwise everything from food to decor gives you mini tour of purani delhi in royal style.
