My quest for authentic desi food in Dubai never ends. It’s hard to find a relaxed Pakistani/Indian eatery around town. When I was invited to this newly opened restaurant tucked away in International city, Greece cluster, I was eager to try it as soon as possible. Its a bijou place specialized in rolls and parathas, founded by Karachi based entrepreneur Mr.Amir. He left his home country at the very young age and went to states. He also got some culinary experience over there which reflects in this food venture too.Its mainly a desi food restaurant but you will also find some dishes with international TARQA(twist)
We started off with chaat from their chatpata thela menu section. One of the popular traditional Pakistani/Indian street food. The green and sweet chutney drizzled on a bed of papdi and chickpeas, lends a sweet, tangy and savory note, further fortified with beaten yogurt and finished with chopped onions, tomatoes adding crunch to the hearty chaat. I simply devoured it in no time.
Then bun kebab made there way to the table. They were soft and a bit of oily, which is exactly like a Pakistani street bun kebab style.Loved it,if you are not familiar, you might find it a bit greasy. Still the taste won’t disappoint you.
Mutton Kabab Roll was a mince meat roll wrapped in paratha served with an array of shahi chutties. The famous shahi paratha is not like an ordinary layered paratha, it was light and a non oily version.
Here comes the Tikka on the bed of rice, unlike widely available spicy version it was mild spicy, succulent, juicy and well cooked piece. Accompanied rice were like mandi rice in taste, perfectly going with the every bite of tikka.
Biryani is my weakness and no wonder I was tempted to the Friday special biryani on the menu. That beauty hit the table with fresh chunky salad and raita. The taste was good, a little spicy with well cooked pieces of chicken and potatoes, however, in comparison with other dishes it didn’t impress me that much.
ALERT!!! During our tasting session we were being asked Lassi or lemonade as drinks, My husband and I both opted lemonade to quench our thirst in this hot weather.I have tried many lemonade at different places but this one was one of the best I have had recently,it was not only refreshing but a perfect blend of tart and sweet. I am pretty sure its gonna be a seasonal hit.
Last but not the least kheer ,its a dessert prepared with boiled rice, sugar, milk and dry fruits etc.To my amazement they serve in a traditional clay pot, a rare sight here in Dubai. It was grainy and thick with right amount of sweetness, although I would suggest to make its consistency more creamy.
So,If you fancy desi food and in search of quality with authentic taste and easy on the pocket than shahi paratha and roll is one of the best options available. I am definitely going back to try newyork style rice and wings.
