I was invited to this authentic Turkish food chain O’Doner. The session was not only top up with food but it was pervaded with information about history of Turkish cuisine  specially doner.

Its located at Golden Mile 1 Galleria, Palm Jumeirah. This small size longitudinal restaurant serves authentic Turkish food this is what they claim.

A brief history regarding Doner

The session started off with fresh juices.I ordered fresh lemonade with mint, it was served quickly with a smiling face,I was trilled to take a sip of it due to my hard walk in scorhing sun but unfortunately it didn’t happen what I was expecting my drink lacked the sweetness big time, it was like a simple water concoction  bitter in taste. When I asked the server about it, to my amazement she said, that is the way they serve here ,I asked her to add some sweetness to my drink cause it was difficult for me to enjoy my sugar less drink. As a welcome gesture there were some Arabic sweets too.

Assorted salads were brought to the table namely veal doner and chicken ceaser,I opted for chicken one. It had fresh veggies(romaine lettuce, tomatoes and corns),parmesan cheese and delectable croutons with well marinated juicy chicken topped with classic ceaser dressing. Veal one had pomegranate too

Now,lets jump into the main dishes

  • Falafel
  • Iskander
  • Doner(chicken/meat)

Falafel were presented on a vintage platter with tahini sauce, some veggies and pita bread on the side.I always enjoy eating them and it was no different here. On the other hand Iskander was totally a new dish, chucks of chicken/meat basted with tomato butter sauce served with yogurt. My fellow bloggers seemed to enjoy it but it didn’t tantalized my taste buds, well, its all about personal taste. One of the spices in it which I couldn’t figure out, left an unusual after taste.

The glance of  1 meter long massive doner stirred the excitement in everyone sitting there. These Ottoman doners had gourmet meat/chicken with lettuce, onions, tomato with O’donner special tomato sauce. You can have it in pita or lavish bread.Meat doner will surely attract meat lovers who are looking for meaty meals but with a healthy option

Other than those dishes, onion rings, cheese bites and kiymale kashar pida were also there.Onion ring were crispy fired and non oily, cheese bites were jalapenos filled with oozing cheese were little delightful bombs and this kiyamake kashar pida which was like a thin crust pizza had mince meat, green and red peppers, onion, parsley and lots of cheese.

Now comes the sweet part, hahaha yes its dessert time. They satisfied our sweet cravings with

  • Antep Baklava
  • Turkish Icecream
  • Ottoman Kunafa

Baklava and Kunafa is something I have been eating since my childhood, the Turkish icecream was a new addition to my knowledge of desserts, the part that made it different from the normal ice cream was its texture, stretchy yes you read it right, shocked??? I was too after tasting it, but the taste and its uniqueness made it a pleasurable experience.

And for digesting all the food feasted there, I called it a day with authentic Turkish kahwa.

Overall experience at O’Donner was fun filled and we got to stuffed ourself with some amazing Ottoman cuisine.

Thank you O’Doner for you hospitality
