I was invited for the preview of BAISAKHI THALI at kulchaking
The moment you enter here, you feel like you are somewhere in a Punjab village. The ambiance depicts the Punjab culture in a very right and sophisticated way. At the end corner they have a special lower sitting arrangement adorned with status portraying the real feel of desi culture. It was under maintenance otherwise would have sat there. They have all silver culinary which is a added touch to their theme.
At the entrance there was a counter which caught my attention since all the street food which India/Pakistan is popular for was displayed right there. From Pani-Puri,Sev Puri, dahi batata vada etc. If I had known I would have skipped my breakfast that day. I ordered sev puri and dahi batata vada was suggested by our smiling face server Sandeep. I devoured my savory snacks and it was soOo interesting to see live assembling of them at the counter.
From the starter we got
– Aloo Angara
– Murgh Tikka
– Machli koliwada
Aloo Angara stuffed with veggies and cheese baked in bricked oven. I really enjoyed every bit of it, so light and perfect as a starter. Murgh tikka was perfectly cooked and juicy from inside as far as Mackli koliwada I always prefer to eat fish on a crispy side and it was way too soft.
Drinks we had
– Meethi lasi
– Masala chachh
– Pudina Sharbat
Meethi lasi was smooth but very thick that I was unable to suck it through straw(poor me ;p). My suggestion is to make it little diluted. Masala chach was just ok but the Pudina Sharbat was soOoo refreshing and made into my favorite list.
From the main menu we were served The thali for which we were invited. Thali is basically a platter with an array of variety of food served in a small portion. Baishakhi thali comprise of Rice(saffron/Veb biryani),Sarson da saag or Dal makhni, paneer lababdar, kadi pakora and roti( makki di roti, missi roti/ tawa phulka)
Veggi biryani was high on spice I preferred to eat saffron rice it was a delightly aromatic and light in flavor. Sarson da Saag taste was something I hadn’t have for long, so authentic, perfectly spiced and buttery in texture, I gorge myself in it with Missi di roti. Dal makhni lacks in taste and last but not the least Kadi Pakora,it had right tinge and immersing pakoras were as soft as clouds.
This new thali going to be launched soon in 13 branches of kulcha king across UAE
In dessert
-Badami Kheer
-Moong Daal Halwa
After so much of jam pack show of savory items we entertained our pallets with the sweetness of Badami Kheer and Moong Daal Halwa. Badami kheer was not smooth in texture, rice could be felt in every bite however it was giving a totally new dimension to taste, right amount of sweetness makes it a champion among the both desserts. I didn’t try halwa as I was about to blast after eating so much but my partner liked it.
I know that kulcha king has now a permanent position in my list for desi food and I am definitely going back to try other items.
Verdict:
