Cheryl Skunicki, Administrative Assistant

Cheryl helps our park be the best it can be.

Cheryl Skunicki, known among family, friends, and peers as Cheri, hails from the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois where she was a dedicated teacher and administrator.

As with many northern transplants, her move to Florida was motivated by the warmer climate, natural wildlife, and the beauty of Collier County.

Not one to sit still, and too young to retire, Cheri decided to find employment where she could offer her skill and talent as an administrative professional. She found that perfect job with the Florida Park Service. Cheri began her new career at Collier-Seminole State Park in July 2023.

Her position as Administrative Assistant suits her friendly nature as she greets campers and visitors with a gracious smile.

Cheri likes that her new job affords her the opportunity to enjoy the park’s natural resources which adds to her wellbeing. She finds listening to subtle bird calls, in real life and online, makes her “feel alive and happy”.

We give Cheri added kudos during staff and volunteer celebrations. She maintains the birthday list and ensures each gets a card and a birthday cake. She is also very enthusiastic in starting a joyful rendition of “Happy Birthday”. It’s a great morale booster!

Cheri loves being on the water however, with current family obligations, she doesn’t get that chance very often.

The winter season is her favorite time of year as “it’s cooler and less chance of hurricanes”.

What is Cheri’s favorite part about her job position? It is her supervisors! She says, “They are GREAT!"
